Forrestor’s walk-off pushes Elks past Portland in extras

Bend, OR - Bend prevailed 1-0 in the Father's Day pitcher duel against Portland on a Brandon Forrestor walk-off single in extra innings that sent the Pickles packing with an L.

The two teams combined for just five hits in total, but the final one from Forrestor would be the only one that mattered in the end for Bend.

With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Forrester found a way to put a ball in play and brought Brian Duroff around to score the first and final run of the game.

The contest's conditions were less than ideal for mid-June, considering rain poured for the first portion of the game and temperatures were in the 40-degree range.

Thus, both sides' bats stiffened up against opposing pitching.

Elks starter Tucker Grote and Pickles starter Freddy Rodriguez each tossed six scoreless innings, with Grote getting the best of 18 of the 21 batters he faced, including three strikeouts and only one hit surrendered.

Rodriguez flirted with a perfect game until the fifth when Ty Silva broke through with Bend's first knock.

AJ Frausto followed up Grote by striking out the side in his Elks debut to set up Cole "clutch" Calnon.

The calm and collected Calnon (1-1) retired nine of the 10 Pickles he encountered and struck out three en route to Bend's first shutout and walk-off win of the season.

The Elks are off Monday before heading up to Walla Walla to take on the Sweets. Bend bested Walla Walla in its Opening Weekend series at Vince Genna Stadium earlier this month. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6:35 p.m. at Borleske Stadium. You can catch all the action on the Sweets live stream or tune into the "Voice of the Elks" Blake Niemann on Bend Elks Mixlr.
